Olympic Essay
The Olympics are a big part of the culture of the World. The modern Olympics were restored by a French man named Pierre de Coubertin. He discussed restoring the Olympics in a world meeting in 1892. Ice hockey is also a favorite event to many people. The Olympics are important because they were stopped and brought back and because they provide interests to many people.
First, the modern Olympics are significant because they were ended, but then started again. The events in the modern Olympics were track and field, gymnastics, swimming, cycling, wresting, weightlifting, fencing, shooting, and tennis (Olympics.org). The first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens, Greece in 1896. Only men were allowed to compete in the modern Olympics. Some tourists who applied were accepted, though. In 1924 the first Winter Olympics were held (History.com). The Olympics have been a major part of the World’s history.
Next, ice hockey is a well-known Winter Olympic sport because many people enjoy watching and playing it (History.org). Canada is predicted to win the gold medal. Ice hockey originated in Canada and many of the best players in the NHL are from Canada. The US is projected to win the silver or bronze medal. The US’s strongest competitors are Canada. Usually Canada and the US play in the game for the gold medal. They are the US’s strongest competitors because they have a lot of talent and skill on their team (Olympics.org). Ice hockey is a major event in the Winter Olympics.
In conclusion, the Olympics are a major part of the world because the modern Olympics were revived and because ice hockey gives joy to people to watch their country compete. Pierre de Coubertin played a major role in bringing back the Olympics. If he would not have suggested it we would not have the Olympics in the present.
